Teaching from Weekend in the Word, Legacy Center

We were saved by grace (Eph 2:8), but also we can live and walk in grace every day. A common definition of charis, is undeserved divine favor. But this is a limited definition. Charis comes from a root verb meaning “to rejoice or to be full of joy.” And in Greek literature it was “a special manifestation of the divine presence, activity, power or glory.” (TDNT) Ken Petty in his teaching Winds of Grace gave a definition that “grace is the power that enables us to overcome sin and to live victoriously.” This goes along with another definition by Dr. James Richards in Grace the Power to Change as “God’s ability working in man making him able to do what he cannot do in his own ability.”
