Trusting God Concerning Giving and Receiving
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Part 1 Grace Giving
This teaching covers three parts: the pattern of giving from Philippians 4, what is true prosperity, and what grace has to do with giving from II Cor 8:1-5. The five points regarding God’s view of prosperity are:
- God owns everything and we “own” nothing.
- The ability to get wealth comes from God.
- God’s blessings carry no sorrow with them.
- Real prosperity results from fear of the Lord and seeking Him with all of our heart.
- To prosper means to “accomplish satisfactorily what is intended, to have success.”
Part 2 Heart Giving
What is tithing all about? The teaching includes an overview of tithing in the Old Testament and a detailed study of the context of Malachi 3. The application of giving yields three conclusions: Giving is voluntary, God wants our hearts and to be clear about our motives, and that no one should have any lack.
Part 3 Cheerful Giving
Part 3 covers two main questions: Was Jesus poor? and Who are the poor? Then several points are made about the comparison and application of the Levites. Cheerful joyous giving is a blessing to others, has no coercion in it and is generous.
Part 4 Purposeful Giving
As a man purposes in his heart means to line up our hearts with God’s purposes and bring out of our stores what is needed in the family. II Cor 9:7-15 explains the barometer that true giving brings thanksgiving to God and glorifying God is the purpose of the harvest. We can also give a “good measure” according to Luke 6:38 and this giving is proportionate and sometime sacrificial.
